CORRESPONDENCE:

When sending a note or money to school, please place it in your child’s folder with the following information on the front of a sealed envelope:

                             Child’s name

                                   Teacher

BUS NOTES:

It is assumed that all children will take the bus home.  Children can not ride a different bus home with a friend on number bus days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). They may ride on a different bus on color bus days (Monday and Friday).  If you or another adult plan to pick up your child at school or your child is going to DEDA, a note is required each day.  Please place this note in your child’s daily folder.

ABSENCES:

If your child will be late or absent from school, please notify the office, 785-0480 before 9:00 a.m.  Please leave your child’s name, grade and reason for absence or delayed arrival.  This procedure should be followed every day of his/her absence unless you know on the first day how long the absence can be expected.  It will not be necessary to send a note upon your child’s return if this procedure is followed.

TARDINESS:

If a child is tardy, he/she should report to the office and tell the secretary before joining the classroom.  The secretary monitors the school’s attendance records and it is necessary for her to know if a child is present, absent or tardy.

         CONFERENCES:

Parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled twice during the school year.  In December and March I will review your child’s progress with you.  However, please feel free to contact me at any time.  If you have a question or a problem, let me know.  Sometimes, just a telephone call can alleviate a concern you may have.

CLOTHING:

Please have your child wear comfortable clothing.  The children will spend part of each day sitting on the classroom rug and floor.  Label your child’s outer clothing (sweaters, jackets, snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves) so that it can be easily identified in case it is misplaced or there is a duplicate of the item.  Weather permitting; we will go out for recess every day.  Please have your child dressed appropriately.  No Crocs or flip flops, please.

It is mandatory for the children to wear sneakers during gym classes.  This is for the children’s safety.  For protection of the multi-purpose room floor, please note that light-soled sneakers are required.

SCHOOL BAGS:

Everyday your child must bring a large zippered backpack big enough to accommodate a 9x12 folder and lunchbox.  It is a place where he/she can put important notices and keep track of all that is needed to bring home.  Please label your child’s bag.

SPECIALISTS:

The children will have computer lab on Monday mornings, music on Tuesday afternoons, and art once a month on Wednesdays.

The children will have gym once a week on Thursday.  Please have your child wear sneakers on those days.  Remember, we would appreciate no “black-soled” sneakers.

The children will visit the library on Friday.  They will be able to check out books and these library books are to be returned the following week.

SNACK:

Each child will be responsible for bringing a snack from home each day.  It is usually helpful to pack the snack separate from the lunch, on lunch days, because children can get confused about what to eat when. We encourage you to send nutritional choices such as fresh fruits, vegetables, or cheese and crackers. Candy is not allowed and high sugar snacks are discouraged. Due to the length of snack time, try to limit this morning treat to one snack and one drink.  We thank you for your help and cooperation with this issue.

LUNCH:

On Tuesday and Thursday only, kindergarten children will have lunch in the cafeteria.  Until early October, each child must bring a bag lunch from home.  Milk may be purchased all year (on lunch days.)  When indicated by the kindergarten teachers, students may purchase the main lunch in the cafeteria.

HOMEWORK:

Each Monday, your child will also bring home one or two Math Homelink sheets.  These are thoughtful activities that extend the Everyday Math we are doing in the classroom. Homework may be returned at any time during the week, and is expected by Friday morning.

BIRTHDAYS:

We love celebrating birthdays!  On your child's special day, you may send in a treat for your child to share with his/her classmates. If you prefer to drop off the treat, please do so by 9:00 a.m. Please keep the treat simple--cupcakes or cookies are fine.  Please do not send in cakes or drinks as they take a lot of time to serve.  Also, please DO NOT send in treats with nuts or peanut butter since these foods are highly allergenic to some children.  Children with July or August birthdays may celebrate in June or may choose to celebrate their "half-birthday."

Birthdays are very important in a child’s life.  In order to avoid any disappointment and feelings of exclusion, no party invitations can be delivered at school.
